Step Seven: Confession
As a new believer in the Lord Jesus Christ as your personal savior, you have probably learned from personal experience that you are not perfect. When a believer fails to be obedient to God, this disobedience is called sin.
To restore a disrupted relationship with God because of sin one needs to confess that sin to the Lord. Confession means to simply agree with God’s view of our thoughts, attitudes and actions. This act of viewing our bad behavior as God does can be done by a simple recital to God or even a regretful thought for what we have done. As we confess our sin, the Lord Jesus Christ intervenes on our behalf with God the Father, by offering His sacrifice at Calvary to cleanse us of our sin and forgive us for it.
With the forgiveness of God it is expected that the Christian will repent of that sin. Repentance means to turn away from the sin. With our turning away from the sin we have the Biblical promise of God’s forgiveness of the sin (1 John 1:9). Also, accompanying the confession and repentance is the cleansing blood of Jesus Christ from all sin (1 John 1:7).
It may be concluded that the cure for the effects of sin on the spiritual and physical life of a child of God is promised to the one who confesses their sin and repents of it.
